Excuse me sir. Do you mind giving me
directions?
Where are you going?
I don't know.
You don't know?
I do not. Do you know?
Do I know what? Where you're going?
No, where you're going?
Yes.
Are you sure?
I suppose not.
I suppose not as well.
So why'd you ask for directions?
Do you want to go there?
Go where?
I don't know. Do you want to go there?
For a minute nothing happened.
Everything was still. This went on for a minute somewhere, but not
here. Here it only happened- it being nothing, for about three
seconds.
Okay.
They turned and walked down the street
together, neither knowing where they were going.
Do you smoke?
I do.
Do you mind if I have a cigarette?
Not at all.
Thank you.
Do you need a match for that?
I do. Thank you.
It's no problem.
You're right. It's not.
That's what I said.
I know.
It was a red matchbook. It had white
writing on it. Flipping it over revealed a worn strike strip. Opening
it showed the black cardboard matches themselves.
There are eleven matches in this
matchbook.
Yes there are.
How many may I use?
You may use as many as it takes-
preferably three.
That is very kind of you.
The cigarette was lit with a match. It
glowed and smoked.
Do we know where we're going yet?
No.
Will we ever?
I doubt it.
Will we get there?
Probably.
Only probably?
Yes, only probably.
We won't definitely get there?
We don't even know where we're going.
Do you know why we're going there?
Why do you ask so many questions?
Why do you make so many answers?
Eventually they got there.
